- Tape Extension Maintenance - Removal and Refit

Tape Extension Maintenance, Removal and Refit is designed for clients who already wear tape-in extensions and want to keep them looking neat, secure and healthy. At Timba in Cardiff, the appointment removes existing tapes, cleanses both natural hair and extension wefts, and reapplies fresh tape so the same hair can be worn for another 4 to 8 weeks.
More information
What Happens During the Appointment
Your stylist follows a careful, step-by-step process to protect your natural hair while refreshing the extensions:
- Assessment of the tapes and natural hair for slippage, tangling or product build-up
- Bond removal using a specialised remover applied at the roots to loosen the adhesive
- Gentle separation of tape tabs, row by row, often keeping wefts in order to preserve the original blend
- Cleansing of both the natural hair and the extension wefts to strip away old adhesive and residue
- Retaping each weft with fresh tape tabs before refitting close to the scalp
- Finishing, with a check of the blend and a trim or style if needed
The full process typically takes around 45 minutes, though this can vary depending on hair length, thickness and how much hair is being maintained.
Who This Service Suits
This appointment is intended for clients who already have tape-in extensions fitted and want to continue wearing the same hair rather than remove it permanently. It's a good fit if:
- Your extensions are due for their 4 to 8 week maintenance point
- You've noticed tapes feeling loose, tangled or visible
- You want to reuse existing extension hair rather than buy new wefts
- You're planning a colour change and want tapes removed and refitted around it, something our colour expert Ceri O'Brien can help coordinate
Aftercare and What to Expect
Proper aftercare helps the new tapes bond well and keeps your natural hair protected:
- Avoid washing for 24 to 48 hours after your appointment to let the adhesive cure
- Brush twice daily with a soft or extension-friendly brush, supporting the roots as you go
- Keep oils, heavy conditioners and silicone-rich products away from the tape bonds
- Tie hair in a loose braid or low ponytail for sleep and exercise to reduce tangling
- Keep heat tools away from the tape tabs themselves
Regular maintenance like this helps prevent matting, protects your natural hair from unnecessary tension, and keeps the extensions sitting flat and close to the scalp for a natural finish.
