A full head tint takes colour evenly from your roots right through to the ends, creating a smooth, uniform shade in a single service. It's a good fit if you want to deepen or enrich your natural colour, cover greys, refresh colour that's faded, or correct patchy tone, and it's one of the most requested colouring services at our Cardiff salon.

What to expect
Your appointment typically runs from around 90 minutes, and includes:
- A consultation to assess your natural base, colour history, and hair condition
- Shade selection to suit your skin tone and the look you're after
- Sectioning and root-to-tip application of the tint
- Processing time, followed by a thorough rinse and conditioning
- A professional blow-dry and finish
Our colour team, including Ceri O'Brien, our colour expert, along with senior stylists such as Katie Williams, Lucy Osborne, Emma Stokes and Hannah James, can talk you through the right formula and shade for your hair.
Semi-permanent vs permanent
The tint can be formulated as semi-permanent or permanent, depending on how much longevity and grey coverage you need.
- Semi-permanent tints are gentler, lower commitment, and fade more quickly
- Permanent tints last longer and can offer up to 100% grey coverage when correctly formulated
- Both are applied in the same root-to-tip way for an even, all-over finish
How it compares
A full head tint gives a solid, uniform colour, which sets it apart from techniques designed for dimension or subtle variation.
- Best for going darker, richer, or covering grey, rather than significant lightening
- Strong lightening from a dark base usually needs bleach or highlighting techniques instead
- If you want a more natural, sun-kissed variation, highlights or balayage may suit you better
- Because the whole head is coloured, regrowth lines show more clearly than with root-only tints, so most clients book a root touch-up every 4 to 8 weeks
Aftercare and maintenance
Good aftercare helps your colour stay rich and glossy for longer.
- Use colour-safe shampoo and conditioner
- Cut back on heat styling where you can
- Protect hair from UV exposure
- Book in for regular hydrating or strengthening treatments to keep condition and shine
Previous colour, home dye, or chemical treatments like bleach or keratin can affect what's achievable in one session, so it's worth mentioning these at your consultation. A patch test is common best practice, particularly for permanent colour.
