Partial balayage in Cardiff
Partial balayage places hand-painted lightening where it makes the most difference - around the face and through the crown - for a fresh, brightening lift without colouring the whole head.
It's an ideal first step into balayage, or a way to refresh and brighten between fuller appointments. The freehand technique keeps everything soft and blended, with no harsh lines.
Every partial balayage includes Oli G Peptide Protection worked in during lightening, plus a toner or gloss to perfect the final shade.

What to Expect During Your Appointment
Your stylist - whether it's Ceri, our colour expert, or another member of the team - will begin with a consultation to discuss your desired lightness level, tone (warm, cool, or neutral), and placement. The service then follows these steps:
- Sectioning and preparation: Hair is detangled and divided, with lightener mixed to the ideal consistency
- Freehand painting: Lightener is brushed onto chosen strands in sweeping V- or W-shaped strokes, concentrating on mid-lengths and ends while feathering towards the root for seamless blending
- Processing and toning: Once the desired lift is reached, lightener is rinsed and a toner or gloss applied to refine the shade and neutralise any brassiness
- Peptide protection: Bond-building or peptide treatments are applied during or after lightening to reduce breakage and improve resilience, shine, and softness
The result is brighter, softly blended highlights concentrated around your face and upper layers, with much of your natural base colour retained underneath for a subtle, dimensional effect.
Who This Service Suits
Partial balayage works beautifully if you're looking for:
- A first step into lightening without committing to all-over colour
- Face-framing brightness and dimension on straight, wavy, or curly hair
- Low-maintenance colour with no harsh regrowth lines - balayage grows out softly, so you can go longer between appointments
- Subtle enhancement rather than dramatic, uniform streaks (if you want maximum all-over brightness, a full balayage or combined technique may be a better fit)
Medium to long hair offers the most space for visible gradients, though the technique can be tailored for shorter lengths. Your starting colour, previous colouring, and hair condition will all influence what's achievable in one session - very dark or previously dyed hair may not reach very pale blond without compromising health, so realistic expectations are key.
Caring for Your Balayage
To extend colour life and maintain hair health, follow these aftercare essentials:
- Wait 48-72 hours before your first shampoo to allow cuticles to settle and colour to stabilise
- Wash 2-3 times per week with sulphate-free, colour-safe shampoo and conditioner in lukewarm water, finishing with a cool rinse
- Deep condition once every one to two weeks to counteract dryness on lightened mid-lengths and ends
- Always use heat protectant before blow-drying, curling, or straightening, and keep heat settings moderate
- Protect from UV, chlorine, and salt water with leave-in conditioners, UV-protectant products, pre-wetting hair before swimming, and wearing hats during peak sun
Gentle detangling with a wide-tooth comb, microfibre towels to reduce friction, and occasional protective styles (braids, buns) will help keep lightened sections strong and glossy between appointments.
