Root Colour is a focused colouring service that treats only the new growth at your roots, usually the first 1 to 2 cm nearest the scalp, so it blends seamlessly with your existing colour. It's a maintenance option ideal for clients who already have a shade they love and simply want regrowth and greys kept discreet between fuller colour appointments.

What Happens During the Appointment
Your stylist will start with a short consultation to check natural colour, existing dye, regrowth length and hair condition before choosing the right formula.
- Hair is sectioned for clear access to the root area
- Colour is applied section by section, targeting only the regrowth
- Processing typically takes 20 to 35 minutes, with checks along the way
- Hair is rinsed, conditioned and finished with a blow-dry or style
The whole process usually takes from 75 minutes, depending on regrowth length and hair density.
Who This Service Suits
Root Colour works well if you:
- Already have an overall colour you want to maintain rather than change
- Want regular, low-fuss grey coverage
- Prefer to limit chemical processing on lengths and ends that are already coloured
- Are looking to book roughly every 4 to 6 weeks to keep regrowth from becoming too noticeable
If you're after a completely new shade, significant lightening or darkening, or creative placement like balayage, a full-head colour or a different technique will suit you better than a root-only service.
Results and Aftercare
Because only the roots are treated, there's typically less cumulative damage than repeated full-head colouring, and the finished look is an even, natural transition from root to tip.
- Visible regrowth generally reappears within 4 to 6 weeks
- Wait 24 to 48 hours before washing to help colour settle
- Use colour-safe, sulphate-free shampoo and lukewarm water
- Limit high heat styling and protect hair from strong sun or chlorinated water
Root Colour can also be paired with a toner or gloss on the mid-lengths and ends, or with a cut and blow-dry, to refresh the whole look in one visit. Timba's colour team in Cardiff, including Ceri O'Brien as colour expert alongside senior stylists such as Katie Williams, Lucy Osborne, Emma Stokes and Hannah James, can advise on the right approach for your hair.
